In July of 2007, I was inspired by a fantastic group of children & young adults. This 80 mile Charity walk, is a direct result of that inspiration.

....is to read on! Curiosity got you this far, so don't stop now.

WHO: Jeff Gifford - Chittenango, NY (20 miles east of Syracuse)
~ Who I am is not as important as why I am here.

It would actually be rude, not to share at least a little about myself. I am 47 and Leukemia free since January 2007. I have 2 children: Jeff (Nicole) & granddaughter Rylee Olivia living in Tennessee and daughter Lealani, a college student, living in N Carolina. I was raised in Chittenango, NY and I am a 10 year Marine Corps veteran. I consider my hobbies to be anything outdoors, as well as working on my family tree. OK...that's enough about me.....now let's go find a cure...eh?

WHAT: 2008 CNY Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Man & Woman of the Year Campaign
- Luckily, this is not a popularity Contest, but simply a contest where $1.00 = 1 vote.

WHEN: March 12, 2008 to May 14, 2008
~ The individuals who raise the most money during the 9 week campaign, will be awarded the title of 2008 Central New York Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year.

WHY: LEUKEMIA is the NUMBER ONE FATAL DISEASE of CHILDREN UNDER 15 YRS OLD. THAT is a TRAGEDY!!!

That's why I'll will be campaigning in honor of the 2008 Boy & Girl of the Year, Emily Flynn & Cole Lancer (pictured with me to the left).

WHERE: Although my Campaign covers a 19 County region of Central/Upstate New York, a Cure is Worldwide, so please don't let the boundaries of a few Counties keep you form helping us find a cure!

Your donation will help us support the Society's mission, to Cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and Myeloma, as well as improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Wow!!! Time is flying by faster than I can keep track! We're about 3 weeks away from the Grand Finale, but we're a little short of where we would like to be.
I ain't scairt!!!
We'll kick it up a notch with my weekend of walks coming up, this weekend!
Friday 4/25 thru Monday 4/28.
4 Days...4 Marathons.
You can check out the routes at:
http://www.cnylink.com/
If you see me walking through your neck of the woods, beep...throw money...or beep & throw money! Seriously, just beep & rest assured, the gesture you receive in return, will be a peace sign!!!
.
A few people have asked about the National Leukemia & Lymphoma Society trip we took to Washington DC, to meet with our Senators & Representatives. 40 States were represented by the Society. If you are interested in hearing about the trip, give me a call at 315-727-9713 & I can tell you how I wish I would have paid better attention in school. Our Government Really is something, when you get to see it up close & personal!
.
4/20 Scoop of the Day: The four types of leukemia each begin in a cell in the bone marrow. The cell undergoes a leukemic change and it multiplies into many cells. The leukemia cells grow and survive better than normal cells and, over time, they crowd out normal cells. End of today's scoop!
.
OK...lot's to do...little time to do it...and a barrel of laughs while it gets done! Peace & good health for now!!! Giff

We're about a week away from the halfway point & we're at about 25% of our goal. No need to fear - Between Underdog & Mighty Mouse, we have a strong team & a plan! We'll get there, fair and square.
I'm off to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society National Mission Days, in Washington, DC, April 4-9. Hopefully, we will leave our mark on Capital Hill & get the kind of funding & research needed to find the cures we so desperately want & need!
Once I get back, I'll be getting the walking shoes ready to do my week of walks. Four (4) Marathons in four (4) days! Yup, that's 27 miles a day! We'll keep you posted on the details.
OK...So far, the farthest a donation has come from, is Alaska. How cool is THAT? Let's see if we can't drum up a little International business, eh? Peace for now! Keep the support coming & the word going!

Together, WE can make a difference!!!

4/1 Fact of the day:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides financial support, teleconferences and free publications for children, parents and educators.

Well, we are 2 weeks into the campaign & we are at about 10% of our goal. To the average Joe or Jane, that doesn't sound so hot. Well, we have a few tricks up our sleeve & we're actually a little over where we thought we would be at this point. Stay tuned for my 'Week of Walks' info. Maybe I'll be walking through YOUR hometown!
Peace for now!!!
Giff

3/25 Fact-o-the-day: Research funded by the Society has led or contributed to such advances as chemotherapy, bone marrow & stem cell transplantation and new, targeted oral therapies, such as Gleevac. Remember that Today's fundraisers are tomorrows cures!!!

Mar 17 2008
3/17 Fact of the day: Leukemia is the number one fatal cancer of young people under 20 years of age!

Mar 17 2008
Happy St Patricks Day, folks! We spent the weekend mapping out places to do my 'Week of Walks", which will consist of walking 4 Marathon's, in 4 day's. Day 1 will begin in the Finger Lakes Region with a 27 mile walk & by day 4, our 27 mile walk will take place in the Alexandria Bay Region. Hey, what can I say...we need to touch 19 counties. Will I be walking through your neighborhood??? We will keep you posted on dates & times of all 4 walks. Peace!!!
